my 2012 Limited did that for about the first 2500 miles. It's 99% gone now. I do have the clunk when going in to first from neutral, if the clutch has been out. Just my 2 cents.
I am a little curious why anyone would start in gear, other than when accidentally killing the bike while on the road. I never start in gear, whether the bike is warm or cold. As a matter of fact, even when I start in neutral, I still hold the clutch in out of habit.
I do this because when I started riding, bikes only had kick start so the habit of starting in neutral sticks with me. To each his own though...
I have a 2011 Limited and when I start in neutral it luches a little, the problem is when I put in 1st. gear after warming up, it makes a loud clunk and sounds like the tranny is going to implode. Dealer says "normal" as with everything else I ask about..
Are you referring to the famous "Harley Clunk"?
I hate that sound too.
What's interesting, is after starting mine in neutral with the clutch pulled in, I back the bike out of my garage and when I get turned around I am on a slight incline w/the rear pointed downward and when I go to put it in gear in first there is no "Harley Clunk"..
What does that say, or rather infer?
To me it indicates a balance position perhaps?
