Cupping is normally caused by under inflation. They call for 40 psi. I shortened the life of my first pair this way so I speak from experience. E3's are a great tire, best I have tried.
I put a Commander II on the back of my bike. So far w/ only 5 or 600 miles I like it. It handles the curves well, doesn't follow grooves in the road. I haven't had a chance to see how they handle wet, but will before long I'm sure.
I was getting 8K out of the Elite 3's, if I can get 10K out of the Commander II, I'll be happy....
Prolly been said before, BUT can I get the E3 or MCII on the rear while still having the stock 402 Dunlop on the front? Mine are bias-ply - case anyone wondered.
My 402 rear is at 5200 or so miles. I may get another 1000miles out of it safely - MAYBE. So I'll be needing a new tire for the rear for sure. Threads like this are worth their weight in gold! Please keep the info coming on this.
ALSO I visited my local indy this past week. Dropped off a buddies bike for some crankcase gasket work and some carb work. So while waiting for my buddy I asked the shop owner/maindude about tires. He point blank told me to stick with the stock 402 rear tire. "Never a better tire." And yea he rides a few bikes including a bagger too. When I asked what he hears on the street about higher mileage rear tires he said "the 402 is what you want." "Yea you get 5K miles and thats it." "The tire needs to be wider for more wear life, like what the newer year bikes now come with from the factory."
I didn't press or ask after that. Was just let down that he didn't even mention either the E3 or MCII tires as an option. Or offer an opinion for that matter.
I have just over 1k on my commander II, it grips real well, and I think it rides better, but that could be just in my head, I didn't put one on the front because I still have a ton of tread on the dunlop.
I ride about 20k a year, so I will know for sure if it lives up to the hype at the end of this season.
I am having one put on the back of my 2011 Fatboy Lo this weekend. I heard both sides to having different treads. Hope that it works ot the side that its ok to have different. I thought since different axle as it were it shouldn't make a dfference.

THANKS![You can use the E3 with the 402 I did when I first changed to the E3, as far as stick with the 402 I would tell the mechanic to stick the 402. The E3 is a far better tire in every way, I ride pretty hard used to get around 6500-7000 on my rear 402 my last rear tire change with the E3 was 12,500 they ride better and handle far better. The E3 is a no brainer $143. free shipping rockymountain atv or jakes same company./QUOTE]
Ordered the Commander II From Dennis Kirk yesterday. Being delivered today. 168+5.00 shipping. Local harley wanted ~400 for a Dunlop 407 installed. My original dunlop made it 13000 miles which isn't too shabby I guess. Will see how this one fares.
I just switched to Commander from E3. I was hoping for longer life from the E3, but 14,900 miles may not be too bad after all. I'm sure my riding style didn't help as well....
