I'm doing the same thing. I've come down to three solutions for the fuel gauge. 1 replace the fuel gauge with the earlier one which looks identical. 2 Replace the sending unit in the tank with the newer one or 3 find a resistor that will raise the ohms to approximately 40-250. I think I'm going to try the resistor as it's the cheapest and easiest once I find the correct one to use. I will let you know what I come up with if I get it to work.
