There are a whole bunch of variables that determine wind quality.
You won't know how effective they are until they're on your bike.
I actually get less buffeting when mine are open.
They get more air to you in hot weather if they're aimed right too. Yeah it's hot air - but it helps.
They help me with the head buffering. As soon as I open them up I get the buffering.
So I never open them up.
I was thinking about giving the adjustables a try. Then realized if they cure some of the buffeting, opening them would bring it right back. Fixed versions would prolly be a better and cheaper bet.

It does get tremedously hot down here in Texas, I will open one side for a while when it's over 100 degrees until I get tired of the buffering.
I always think the adjustable route it the way to go. They are variable, from slightly open to aiming the wind at your body.

When I had them on my Ultra and EG Classic I always found that if it was hot enough to open them, the air that they pushed at me felt like a convection oven. I keep my shields low enough that I still get some wind. So I really didn't like the added blast of hot air from underneath.
Check out these Freedom Wings, Similar to HDs. I really like'm !
I don't. I bought those and quickly discovered that they aren't cut to match the curves of my 2012 SG batwing fairing at all. Very sloppy. I bought and very quickly installed the HD version. Happy with them.
Anyone who wants my "Freedom Wings", I'd sell 'em in the US for $50 PayPal, shipped.
