Antennae whip ... oops ...
I just installed a CB radio on my Road King ... the antennae (3 ft)fits on a license plate bracket ... in the wind, it starts whipping and whacks my wife on the head (good reason to wear a helmet
) ...
I guess my options are (and no, removing my wife off the back is not an option):
1) smaller antennae ?
2) longer bracket to move the antennae back ?
3) add some sort of shaft to make the lower part of the antennae stiffer ?
Any thoughts?
thank you!

Had the same problem with the antenna on my Streetglide. After I got poked in the eye I put an antenna ball on the end. On the road it would whip around and hit my passenger. Solved it by putting the antenna into the windshield with an antenna strip I got from West Marine. Radio waves are line of sight so you should be able to do something similar with a CB. A good electronics store should know. I tried a shorter antenna but reception was not good due to passengers blocking transmission. The antenna in the windshield works way better than the antenna supplied with the Streetglide.
Good luck.
Good luck.

You can get a small "rubber duckie" antenna, but it won't receive very well and transmit even worse. I don't know if you can move it or not, but that's probably the best option. Consider going higher with it if possible, not just farther back. You shouldn't attach anything to the whip to stiffen it.
(Just curious: how does it hits your wife if it's 3' long mounted on your license plate? Do you ride backwards a lot? My whip antenna, while not for a CB, blows backward when I ride.)
When you say you "putting the antenna into the windshield with an antenna strip" do you mean in the batwing or are you talking about doing something else. What is the manufacturers name of the antenna you are using?
Mount it on top of wifey's helmet. You'll always be able to strike up a conversation in a bar and get free beers
Wifeys make a great 'ground plane reflective surface' (radio lingo).

I put the short J&M antennas on my ultra classic. SWR is good and reception and transmit seem to be every bit as good as the whips that came on it. They are pre-tuned for the HK radio. Not sure what you have.

I think these are the antennas that bobo06 mentioned. There are 4 different License Plate mounted antennas ranging from 1' to 4' lengths.
