Default First Flat

Well only have had my SG for a month or so and picked up a stupid nail in my rear tire. Had the local bike shop order a metzler 880 same as I have now, just waiting and it sucks, sunny and in the 80s all week. Got a quote for $300 installed, the tire was $200. No one would patch or plug it, liability reasons. What do you guys and gals think about the price, tire, patching or not?

And and also thank you to the guy at the gas station for pointing out how low my tire was, It felt like I was skating around, had now clue I had a low tire.

Can't tell you if the price is good or not. I used to average at least one flat a year, so I usually just plugged mine and rode them until they were worn. I'd usually stock up on tires when they were on sale, so if it came time to replace one, I'd just take the wheel off and run it over to our local MC tire shop and they'd mount and balance the new on for $25 while I watched.

Now that I have a 7 year tire/wheel warranty, I'll probably never have another flat again.

If it was just a small to medium nail in the tread part of the tire I would plug it. If it looked like it cut any cords or inr the sidewall I would replace it. Couple years ago I punchered a rear tire with a 3/8 bolt. I replaced it as I am sure it cut some cords in the tire.

What do you mean "stupid nail"? Sounds to me like it was pretty sharp.. $300 for a tire sounds outrageous to me, but I do my own so I may be wrong. If the nail was in the tread you could plug it, or pull the tire & put a hot patch on the inside. It'd probably be just fine. Or just run a tube in it. If it was into the sidewall you really do need to replace the tire.

For a nail, I just plug. I use these plugs. Www.Patchboy.com
They have self vulcanizing mushroom plugs. Have used them on the run flats on my vette, and never had a problem.
