Default Very Important Question!

On my 2010 SG there is a plug-in on the left side of he inner fairing. The manual calls this a cigarette lighter plug-in and it says not to use it for plugging in accessories,... ie cell phone chargers, gps, etc.... I have ran my GPS off of this plug-in before, but now the plug has stopped working. How many of you run cell phone chargers or GPS devices off of that spot. Have you ever had any problems as a result. This is very important for me to know, since I am about to embark on a 2,000 mile road trip, and was planning on running my GPS from that plug. Thanks for your input in advance.

I don't know if Harley is just busting chops kinda saying to only use the cigarette lighter to light cigeretts but it has at least 3 amp fuse maybe 7.5 amp. I have to look. I hardwired my zumo but I can't think of a reason you can't use it . However......I know nothing about electrical engineering but I suspect any 12 volt source can run cell phone chargers or gps.

Things plugged in it can can hit gas tank when turned to left. I think that that is the reason not recomended.

Agree with Gliden. Check your fuse to see if it's blown. Verify the fuse rating vs the current rating/requirement for your GPS. If it's been working fine, just pack a spare fuse or two for your trip.

If you're using the cig lighter for anything else (amp, hidden antenna, lighting smokes), the combined draw is probably what is blowing your fuse. Avoid any other use of your plug while the GPS is in use. Your best permanent solution would be a dedicated GPS power source.

Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the input. I'll check the fuse. Don't think my Garmin should be overloading it, but will look into that
