My '05 FLHTCI has 3+ percent error in odometer. Speed error seems even higher. It shows 80 mph when I am running 75. Has anyone else seen this on thier bike?
I think mine runs a little slow too...not too concerned with it, all speedos are off some...I'd rather it showed me faster than slower...I was planning on finding out for sure when I got my GPS unit in...
I picked up my 05 Electra Glide about a month ago and I noticed right away that the speedo seemed about 5mph fast. I tallked to an HD tech about it and his Road King is the same. I have a relative with a Road King also and his is 5mph off also. Is it a Touring model issue????
Since you are all my brothers and sisters nothing. Now if you were a law breaker the speeding fines break down like this.
MPH over the posted limit;
6-9 $78.50 and 3 points
10-14 $153.50 and 3 points
15-19 $178.50 and 4 points
20-29 $203.50 and 4 points
30 and over $303.50 and 4 points.
All points and fines are doubled in school zones and construction zones. So if you are doing 30 over in a school zone, besides going to jail you get a $607.00 fine and 8 points....ouch[8D]
ALL motorcycle speedo's are off to some degree. Normally below 55mph they run about 2-3 mph slow, and above 65 they tend to run 3-5 mph fast. I've heard all kinds of explanations for this being the case some are as follows:
As tire wears (rapidly) on bikes it affects the registere speed
All bike tires are in a constant state of scuffing (friction), but as speeds increase contact patch decreases, hence the variation of slow below 55, high above 65.
variance in contact patch based on speed. varied tread depth, etc....
The list goes on and on. Bottom line is I have Never heard of anyone being ticketed on a bike for less than 10mph over, and have never heard of a bike speedo being off that much.
For the record mine is spot on, Yeah right, LOL.........
