Default Mini apes on Ultra?

I have about 1200 miles on my new to me 02 Ultra. I am noticing that my left arm gets sore from the bars being a bit low. I had the same issue on my metric - put 4" risers on. Was actually thinking of going ape but then ended up getting the Ultra.

I do not want big apes as I do not think they will look good, and it kind of defeats the purpose of having your hands behind the wing.

So - what are you guys doing for higher/more comfortable bars? (I am 5' 10" BTW). Is there any play in the cables or do they need to be replaced along with the bars.

I am pretty good with a wrench - fairly straight forward project?

Thanks in advance.

I put on 10'' mini bagger apes, read on here that cables would work and my throttle and idle did but the clutch didnt so i just replaced them all. also did not have to lenghten the handlebar wires but they were a bitch to run internally. if you have the street glide mairing mount mirrors 10'' bars will put your hands right in of them. besides running the internal wires not a bad project as long as you can change your own cables.

these are 12" are work great for me. They do keep your hands above the fairing, but that's not an issue for me. If my shoulder pain was a 10 before its at about a 5 now.

When I tour, I usually run about 450-500mi in a day.

You will need wire extentions and new cables with 12" and it's a bitch to run wires through these yaffe bars, but worth it. (GL) This is my 02 Ultra

Did 10 inch Wild Ones here. Clutch cable was routed around and over top of my glovebox (no stereo, FLHT). I re routed it underneath and gained a few more inches. Just enough for the 10 inchers. Any taller bars and no way this will work. You can re route it outside the fairing also, but doesn't look so hot. Straightened out (carefully) my brake line. Probably would look better replaced, but it is hidden by the fairing, so i'm good with that. Check sig pic.
