Looking to add 12" apes to my bike. I am going for comfort and cost effectiveness. So I'm looking for input, brand, style, install etc...also, what extra components will I need to change?
just put 16in apes on my buddys 07 street glide and all he had to change was the clutch cable. I rerouted the wiring and throttle cables and cut and extended the hard line on the front brakes not hard at all cost him about 70 bucks plus the bars
Give Hill Country Custom a call, you can get the hole package there. They have there on bars and CycleSmith bagger bars. I've bought three sets from, alway did me right.
12 Harley Bat Wing apes. Only thing needed was the bars them self. No new new cables no extension of wires. Just a little rerouting. I've put these on my 12 bike and one other 10 with the same result...both Street Glides.

Give me some details on how you rerouted the cables. Pics would be great
I did the Wild One 577's. They are a nice 12" bar and I quite like the ergos. I changed the brake line and clutch cable when I did mine. Wiring was easy to reroute. Only other thing you will likely want is to swap the factory rubber riser bushings out for polyurethane. Oh, and grips, the left one is glued on the factory bars.

Hey. Bout to buy a '10 SG tomorrow. First thing I'm looking into are some apes. Can I really do the Harley 12's without extra wiring or cables? I did apes on my street glide and would love to just swap the bars essentially without adding in extensions and changing cables particularly. Guess I just want to know if I'm going into the project expecting to not have to change any of that, are there some other headaches I'll encounter?
Thanks!
Just traded my '10 Ultra on a '15 FLHTK but I installed 14" Wild 1 576's a year after I bought it. I went +8 on the brake and clutch cables and used the stock routing. Worked great. Also soldered in my own extensions for the internal wiring. Rocked the bars as far forward as I could without contacting the inner fairing and they were perfect.
I know guys say you can use stock cables if you re-route, but I'd go +6 on both cables if doing the 12" bars. Magnum shielding cables are highly recommended. You'll love the new position over stock...much more comfortable and long trips are a pleasure. Just my $0.02.
