I am wanting to put mini apes (16") on my 2012 FLHRC but don't want to spend $2100 at dealership. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can install the bars , I just don't want to mess with the cables. How big can I go with the bars and still use the exsiting cables?
Thanks

You can go a MAX of 12.5 (some manufacturers measure differently, I am using Wild 1s as a reference) without changing the cables. You will still have to extend the wires. 16"s are "mini" apes?
I would get a new quote from another dealer I'm not sure what you had quoted but 2100 seems way too high. Most dealers I spoke to quoted 8hrs labor for internally wired bars. Then you have your parts. If you stick with the plain black clutch and brake lines youll save a little too. You could buy your bars first and hold them up to your bike to be sure they are in the ball park of what you want before spending for an install.
Thanks for the replies. I want mini apes up to 16" is what I meant to say. I was hoping that maybe I could go up to 16" without messing with cables. Ft Thunder in OKC quoted me that when I bought the bike. Think I need to go to a different dealer.
I was quoted anywhere from 15-2000 for parts and install. My buddy has a '13 FLHR and he got everything done for about 900 at a local trike conversion shop. I've heard the heritage style bars can be swapped without any other changes but I'm looking for about a 16" ape too. That high is definitely going to need to lines.
I actually had the same issue as you. I wanted full sized apes. You know, 16s! So I went to the dealer and was quoted a rediculously high figure. Because I had cruise control and ABS, I just didn't want to mess with it myself. So I found a local Indy shop, and when all was said and done, I was "out the door" for for just about 900 dollars. And that included chrome controls and 16 inch full sized Wiild 1 chrome apes. Lol
10 and SOME 12 inch MINI apes are the biggest you can go and not swap cables on a Road King.

I have 10" mini apes on my '07, everything just made it. Pulled any extra slack of wire out of headlight and had to re shape the bends of the brake line at the MC.
As others have said, get another quote. Find a good Indy shop. I had 16" Wild Ones with new cables and lines put on my RK a couple years ago for $1100. Best mod I've done to my bike.
