I am looking at some ape bars for my 2012 FXDC but I dont really want to run new cables if I dont have to. Im not looking for a serious set of apes just something small like a 12 inch. Are longer cables still needed? If I switch out the handle bars in greneral do I need different cables? Also if someone can recommend some nice bars that would be great.

If I am not mistaken 12" will be stretching it to the max of how far stock wires and cables can go.

i agree 12" bars max without having to change out cables and wires. as for what kind, there is just to many sets of bars out there. its all about your taste. google 12" ape hanger images.

I found a 10in ape bar that I want to go with and think I might give that a try. Im not sure if im going to like the feel or if my arms will get sore.

Only way to know is either rent/ride a bike with that style or change them and try. I went with install them and try. Took my real 1st ride this weekend. 100 mile ride and my shoulders and neck was sore. Before returning home I got In real good stretch. Ride home was much better.
