Ignition Switch Problem
I've got an 03 FLTRI with 65,000 miles on it. Has run flawlessly after major professional HP upgrade in 05, (all the best stuff). Two days ago all of a sudden, it stopped on the road, just as if the ignition switch was shut off! No power to anything! Pulled to side of road, flicked switch on and off 1/2 doz. times. After a few minutes, switched it to On again and everything lit up perfectly and it started right off. It ran for 5-10 miles and it died again, just like stated abobe. No Power anywher! Again after a few minutes, the ignition switch game alive and it stared right up and it worked perfectly for another 5-10 miles of riding then it did the same thing. I did make it home eventually, but it did this 6 or 7 times in the 40 miles(60 KM) it took to get home. Has anyone else had a problem like this? What was the solution? I think the Ignition Switch needs to be replaced, what do you think? (tew)

I will try that! One person thought that my EFI Systems Relay was going replaced that. I thought I had it solved. Not so. It appears it only shuts down when riding very slow speeds at 2000 or under RPM. Never shuts down at highway speeds.
This may sound stupid.... but check your master fuse. I had a friend who chased a problem like yours for months. He spent almost $1500 on parts. It turned out to be a bad connection on his master fuse. The fuse itself was fine. It was just not making a solid contact.
Correction: Arizaino is right... I didn't look at the year of the bike in question. Kinda sorta the same type of solution though.

Main Circuit breaker problem....it's not the switch. I had the same thing happen with me...when the bike dies, the circuit breaker has opened. If you let it sit for approx. 10-15 seconds, you'll hear a click when the breaker resets itself. There was a recall for that problem. I by passed the breaker and installed a Maxi-fuse....no more problems. Just sayin
) Hope this helps.

Some good suggestions here! I did replace the main circuit breaker about 3 years ago. Then a dealer replaced that one, one day saying there was a recall, so went and replaced the one I had put in. It came with a 40A breaker. Maybe it needs a 50A?? I think the newer bikes have a 50 A main braker??? I like the idea of a Maxi-fuse. It has got to be something like that as even the clock goes dead, just as if the battery was disconnected. Thanks for the suggestions. Never seems to stop when riding at 65 mph.

That's about right....the main circuit breaker (all breakers for that matter) work on heat. When you are riding slow, less air movement around the breaker, gets hot and trips. When cruising, lots of air movement, breaker remains cooler and won't trip. After awhile, the breaker will trip more frequently if not changed.

The early Twin Cam Harleys had a main circuit breaker problem and a recall. Sounds exactly like what I experienced on my Ultra. I don't know how many model years that this problem went on but I'll bet that is what is wrong.
