Close Call
After a wonderful ride today, I'm returning home on the last 7 miles of the journey. I'm on a four laner, no dividers, and I'm in the right hand lane, and a truck with a shell passes me on the left. Immediately after passing me I see his blinker and he pulls over in my lane. When I say immediately, I mean his rear bumper was directly across from my front tire. He just came on over!
I honked, and I could see his shock when I did. I immediately slowed down letting him in and then pulled up along side of him to really let him have it. As I pulled up next to his window, he shrugged, put is hands in the prayerful position under his chin, and mouthed, "I'm so sorry!" You could see he was sincere, and he felt terrible. I share this with you all because folks out there just don't see us. We've got to make sure they DO see us, and that we are always in a position to make a safe "getaway"... Very nearly my last ride ever. I mean this was a seriously close call.... Please be careful out there, and watch out for the knuckleheads that are out there with us.
The only thing I feel can help me is to stay EXTREMELY alert, like you were. They sometimes DO NOT see us, sometimes they're distracted and sometimes they're just idiots. It's up to us to protect ourselves. Expect them to do something goofy, they're good at it. Don't trust those yahoos for a second. If it's possible for them to do something stupid then they will.

Glad you were watching. Lost a friend last year. He was in left lane of four lane road. Was passing a slow moving truck on right lane. An SUV pulled in front of truck to turn left(opposite of truck and bike) made it in front of truck but t-boned my friend on his first day of his Xmas vacation. RIP Buck!
Dude, I think I just threw up in mouth... That story brought back flash-backs from my accident last year! Stay safe Brother!
