I dont know why people change the battery every year. Your just wasting battery life. Know the code, then when the battery dies punch in the code until you replace the battery

+1 on Radio shack siren. Cheap loud mod for under $10

thank you. finally, someone who gets it. i don't like throwing perfectly good things away, and i'm not about to keep a 'spare' battery on the bike so it can run down without me even using it. it doesn't take long to input your code if your fob battery dies (if you actually know how to use it), and there is a dollar general or walmart on just about every street corner now. i know the batteries are fairly cheap, but still. my fob battery in my 07 lasted almost 4 years.

I agree. I practice the manual code every once in a while. But I did buy spares when I first read these threads. Last time there was a thread like this I tested the battery in my 1 year old fob. Still perfect:

Consider every security system and anti-theft device add-ons (pagers, disk brake locks, etc.) as speed bumps. The more speed bumps you have the better your protection. Most thieves operate on the simple MO of stealing it fast and quietly, so whatever you can use to slow them down will help. But know that there are some highly informed and skilled thieves out there that know exactly how to defeat any security system/device, so if they're determined they will get it. Thieves like to troll and surveill apartment complexes for easy targets so be forewarned and prepared.

I had a bike stolen many years ago. I mean it was stolen from me; I didn't have it stolen. lol
It was simply hotwired and gone in less than 1 minute from my favorite parking spot at the mall. It can happen to anyone anytime.

Check out this video of how fast it can happen. I saw another vid a couple of years ago where they laid the harley on the huge blanket and 4 guys took a corner and put it in a van in 20 sec. This vid is similar, so you get the idea.

Do this and you will have time to get outside before it's gone.
