Default Security System Questions

Picking up a 10 Ultra tuesday with all the goodies. Just how efective is the security system? I live in an apartment complex (for the time being) and I'm hoping it will let me sleep with both eyes closed.

It won't. But, it's better than nothing. Did you get the siren module? It wasn't stock. Might be now. If not, search for the Radio Shack siren thread. Save you some $$

Change your security code per the owner's manual and keep the forks locked. Unfortunately if someone wants to steal it they will get it. You can only make it take more time therefore more likely to be seen.

I agree to always lock your forks. Doesn't hurt to park close to the curb. I also have the following:

H-D® Security System Smart Siren II

H-D® Security System Pager Receiver II - Rechargeable

I like it. When parked outside your favorite pub, along with locking the forks, it will generally prevent someone from jumping on your bike in broad daylight and driving it away. Outside in the dark or in an unsecure remote area, it is difficult to totally prevent a committed thief from taking the bike.

I think they work very well. Need the siren option for sure, and it's an easy install. Somebody messed with my bike at a motel on a recent trip. In the few seconds it took me to get to the door, all I could see of those guys was their back side running like heck to get away.

A small piece of advice: Change your fob batteries once a year or two at most. Like mentioned already, change your factory security code. If your fob battery does die, it is good to know that code by memory.

I change my battery every year when I put the renewed tags on the bike.

I agree if someone want it and they are experience no alarm will work. But in this case with the forks locked and audible alarm set it should deture the criminals. I am going to look for this radio shack siren mod. I have heard about it but havent researched it. I only have the factory silent alarm.
