Love my XIEDs! Great performance and my bike runs smooth with them. If I ever decide to tear into the engine later I'll go with a tuner, but for just pipes and a stage I, these things are perfect.

Nightrider.com ( steve mullen ) makes and sells XIEDS.

the website will help the rider select the proper version for their bike.

and Steve offers a Mil discount.

I have been tossing around the idea of these. Not to fond of something tricking the ecm to do something. But alot of positive feedback on these for a basic stage 1 upgrade. But i also here alot of people went with the stage 1 download first (150 bucks ) from the dealer. Then bought these. Thats like 250 bucks. WHere as if you only purchase a PCV or fuel pak it will be the about the same. Either way they are piggy back systems that trick the ecm to do something.

I was looking at the fl vieds because they are adjustable.

Thanks...

I have a header I gutted and I am going to pick up a K&N AF. I am not planning on going beyond these modifications. I am guessing a Xied/Vied would be a good companion to these adjustments. And that a Power Commander would be over kill.

For the most part, yes, you will get a wide range of answers on this. There are some that would say, somewhat rightfully so, that the only way to dial your bike in optimally is a tuning device and a solid dyno tune, there are also those that would say that the difference is not terribly noticeable if at all, and not worth the ~~$750 cost

What does ied stand for? What does it actually do? Yes I already went to nightrider.com, which does'nt seem to have been updated for quite sometime.

Not sure what the X is for, but the IED part stands for Inline Enrichment Device, best I can tell.

They are essentially diodes that change the signal from the sensors to get the ECM to think your bike is running leaner in closed loop than it actually is thus "fooling" it to add fuel.

Actually, they are resistors that drop the voltage the ECM sees. It then enriches the mixture to put the votage back in range. It's about a dollar or two worth of resistors ( there are 2), plus a couple of connectors. You're really paying for the R&D. Have them installed on my '08 Ultra. Second mod after board extenders.
