Default HD Solid Disc Wheels

I was looking at the solid disc mirror chrome wheels on the HD website. I like them and think they would look good on the RK. Does anyone have experience with these or similar wheel?

When you are riding in a cross wind are they probablem?

A buddy of mine had then on his RK and yes they are a problem with cross winds. We left Dallas last year on a ride up to Moab Utah. When we got into the panhandle the wind was blowing 35 mph with stronger gusts at times. He said it felt like it was blowing him sideways.

I have them on my RK. See pic below. I have the polished alum model as I prefer polished wheels. Just my preference. Anyway I notice a little wind push behind and passing a big truck but nothing that bothers me. I like the look of solid wheels. Plus it is a different look than most other bikes on the road. JMHO but I am sure the, I hate polished wheels police on this Forum, will raise their ugly head and feel the need to type a ugly comment.

I have the same wheels on my '07 Street Glide that 100th does and I don't notice anything unusual with them. There is a long elevated bridge that spans the Tennessee river on I-65 that I cross all the time and even in the strongest cross winds on that elevate bridge I haven't had any issues. I am not saying that the possibility doesn't exist but if there is any problems running a solid wheel it is going to be minor. If the design were inherently dangerous, every fatboy sold would be in a ditch somewhere before it made it home.

For all you guys looking at the solid wheels, BE CAREFUL! I have an 02 that came with solid wheels and have had a failure of the wheel around the rivits that hold the wheel together. I was looking for an air leak that was driving me crazy. finally I put the whole wheel in water and found the air leak around the rivits. They have cracks from one rivit to the next.. Harley denies that this is a saftey issue and advised that my milage 50,000 exceeds their responsibility. I have many pics for those intrested I will post one for now

If you are gonna go with solids, AVOID HD versions with RIVETS! Notice '07 FB wheels have NO rivets and are no longer SOLID. Wonder why?

I had a 2000 Fatboy with stock wheels and heard the same stories about wind effects. I asked an engineer friend to evaluate the physics involved and his conclusion was the difference was unmeasurable because the gyroscopic effect of the solid wheel more than offset the increased surface area. Looking at the Road King the increased surface area is only that portion of the rear wheel below the saddlebags and the front wheel between the OD of the brake disc and the wheel rim, not much compared with the rest ofa bike profile. IMO
