Default had my first problem

well 16,000 miles comepletely trouble free ended sunday, the sift linkage that connects to the splines coming out of the tranny just decied to fall off while riding. lucky for me i was pulling in to eat a bite so i let it cool while so i could get my hands in there to see what happened. i was about a mile from a friends house so i was able to get it back on enough to get it to shift into 2nd and limp it to his house. borrowed his bike to go get my tool needed, easy fix but still dont know why it happened. the bolt was still tight, i loosened it up and put it back on and tighted down. i will be keeping eye on it for while to see if it backs off again. anybody had this happen?

Quite common but mileage is kind of low for that to happen already. I have been through this a few times. My suggestion would be take it back apart, inspect all linkage parts for signs of wear or stripping, both the levers and the spline. When you put it back together use blue loctite. Best of luck!!!

Don't be a slow learner like I was first time. The bolts need to be removed completely in order to disassemble and reassemble.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. But I always carry zip ties and a little bit of bailing wire. You can fix a lot of small problems with these two easy to carry items, and continue riding all day. I have made repairs to riding partners bikes using these things that really saved us a lot of grief. Be sure when you get home to make permanent repairs, you wire brush the splines clean inside and out and use Locktight on the threads.
