It will be interesting to read replies, but rim width is driven by the size of tyres you choose. There is an HDF sponsor who will advise and supply!

bingo we have a winner

you work backwards to get the answer.

What size tire fits in the space and does what you want it to do?

remember tire size differences, even very small ones will drastically change how the bike handles, how it turns, how it acts when leaning into corners, etc.

once you pick the tire, the manufacturer should have a chart showing the range of width for rims. Try to stay in the middle of the recommendation so the tire meets the road with the best profile.

Here is a general size chart for 2000 and newer baggers:

2000-2013 front size
21 x 3.25" or 21 x 3.5" with a 120/70-21 tire

2000-03 rear size
18 x 3.5" with 140/70-18 tire

2004-08 rear size
18 x 4.25" with 150/70-18 tire

2009-13
18 x 5.5" with 180/55-18 or 17 x 6.25" with 200/50-17

I'm a newb when it comes to bike tires, but here's my question:

What size rim/tire can I go up to "safely" without changing rake angle? Would it look funny?
