Wouldn't a regular car amp work? Is there a certain type of connection that has to be made? As long as its small enough to fit in the fairing it should work or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
Just all boils down to preference. Amps are nothing more than amps....lol. The only issue I would be concerned with is having enough power to run it which is why several brands have specific "motorcycle" amplifiers. They all work the same.
I'm going with the PBR300x4 because it fits and has been tested by several.
Most car amps are class A/B, which will typically take more juice to run and can over-tax a bike charging system. Class D amps, as well as the Fosgate "boosted rail" design, are meant to be easier for a bike to handle.

You need to go over to the Audio Forum. Lots of good info there.
I found an Elf E2125X 2-ch. amp (refurb) on Ebay for $135. It outputs 250w @ 2Ω and I'm using 6˝" Hertz speakers and a Hogtunes Tweeter Pod. Together they output 2Ω wired in parallel, which maximizes the amp's power, and provide excellent sound quality considering the environment. I've very pleased and it has worked well now for >1 year. Here are two photos of the setup. I later installed an extra bracket for each speaker, not because I necessarily needed them but just in case the stock brackets needed more support for the heavy speakers.
The Elf is a mini-amp designed for autos but fits perfectly atop the HK head unit. It is the same design and size as the Arc 125.2, which works just as well but will likely cost more. Wiring will need to be done from scratch, as it the amp isn't a turnkey product, but that's not a problem if you understand the fundamentals. The 6˝ speakers were easy to install with the provided adapter cones, and there are quite a few available. If they don't come with adapters you can buy them on Ebay.
Not thread jacking since this may help when you go to install new speakers.....does anyone have an HD part number for those beefier vertical brackets? I just installed two focal 6.5s and I noticed one of mine was broke. 2009 Street glide.
