Default Chrome Front end

How difficult is it to put on the chrome front end from HD? I am taking the fairing off to get painted and figure since it is off I might as well put on the chrome.

Would I need special tools?

If you have a shop manual just follow it and take your time. I did mine on my 07 FLHTC except for pressing the new fork oil seals into the tubes, had HD do that. Took me about 4 hours and save alot compared to what the dealer wanted to charge. Any questions PM me.

No special tools needed. Fairly straight forward. I used PVC pipe to install the seals. If you have ABS brakes, then bleeding those will be harder than the install itself. Be sure to replace rubber seals under the fork cap nut & the 6mm bolts & washers at the bottom of the legs. I didnt replace my seals as my bike is still typically new.

unless you're putting chrome calipers on as well, no need to even break the hydraulic lines calipers just hang out of the way, (unless you are going to put on chrome master cyl)

I went to a single brake caliper. Had to change brake lines.

I did the same, but had the dealer install the progressive monotubes while I had it apart. Easy to remove and reinstall, just didnt want to mess with the seals and fork oil.

Be sure and get the proper amount of fork oil in each leg. You can do it.

It's easy, I have done it twice already. All I did was take the front part of the fairing off and the dash panel and off came the forks. Easy job.

this is great advise!! it will ride/handle better, and also you will never have to deal with fork maintenance again, you're done!! makes things real nice
