Default Engine Guard Question

I have a couple of scrapes on my new (used) '07 Ultra Glide Classic. I want to replace it to bring the bike back to cherry condition.

Should I simply go back to OEM - or do you have after-market suggestions ?

I want quality of course, and STILL use the lowers

Any help?

If you want the lowers then I guess you go with stock. I like the lowers and have no issues with the stock engine guard's shape.

If you go with stock H-D guard your testes...a new engine guard for an ElectraGlide costs $206.00....yup that's $206. Quite a slap in the 'ole jewels, that one.
Ebay has aftermarket crash bars for around the $120 mark. They're not mandrel bent so there will be a slight difference in OD in some places.

Even if you do not use the lowers, get the stock replacements. If you ever sell it, the next owner may want to put on the lowers.

Why not just have yours re-chromed or powder coated? No need replace it with stock when you can actually get nicer than stock from a quality chrome shop or get it powder coated to match the lowers for a custom look.

Couple scrapes on the engine guard not really a big deal there is no guaranty that it won't happen again, I would spend that money on a couple days of long ride instead.

Keep an eye out in the Classified section of the Forum ... You'll find a nice take off soon.

You're in Tampa. Ride over to the swap meet at Webster the first Sunday of every month & find a good take off. Way cheaper than a new one from a dealer.

All great ideas.

I am going to paint it with clear nail polish and see how long before it rusts

What would a rechrome cost?
