Default Polyurethane Bushing Install

I heard you should put white lithium grease on the bushings when you install them or they will squeak. Is that right? Has anyone done that?

I did not use any white grease or any grease on mine and they did not squeak. But I have heard that they can. I do not think it would hurt anything if you do put a thin coat on.

Be careful with the type of grease you put on the bushings; some types deteriorate them.

Belray waterproof grease works great on bushings.

No squeak here but I would think it would only make it easier for them to move up or down with intended or unintended pressure. Case in point: Was showing someone the fork travel on my front end and my bars slid down a bit. Pulled them back up but that is just my experience.

I noticed my bars move if Im hanging on too tight when going over a cattle guard, Im thinking this is due to the height of my bars.

I didn't use any grease and have no squeaks or noises from the bushings.

Pull your riser cover off and re-check your handlebar clamp. The forward bolts need to be tightened down first, until there's no more gap. Then ther rear bolts get tightened down to torque spec. Done correctly, the handlebar clamp works a bit like a pipe wrench; pulling back on the bars should add to the clamping force. Putting some red loctite under the clamp on the knurled part of the bars will add a little extra grip.

When you're not sure which grease to use you can always use white petroleum gel (Vaseline), its a paraffin that you can replace later. But don't bring it back in the house once you used it in the garage
