Default Replace Handlebars TriGlide

Besides what is mounted on the handlebars, how much of the fairing must be removed. The parts guy at my dealer said if I knew anything about wrenching, I should be able to do it. I want to replace the handlebars that brings them 2 inches closer to me. Thanks in advance for advice.

The outer fairing needs to be removed and the the inter fairing will need to be pulled up off the trees so you can lean it forward to get at the clamp. Just search for bar changes on any of the bat wing bikes it's all pretty much the same. There is a ton of info on here.

Remove the front fairing, then pull the radio, and the switch housing. I've never removed anymore than that, and I've installed several sets. Installing the bars are not hard, just time consumming. Take your time, and pay attenion where everything came off so you can put all the parts back where they belong.

Thanks for that info. That doesn't sound to bad. I'm sure the dealer would get about $200 for that job.

The dealers get closer to a grand for bar change. If all they charged was 200 bux, I'd lettum do it.

I'll give them a call tomorrow. You probably are right. I think it's time we start nogotiating the cost of the job.

Honestly, a service manual, and a couple searches on here to verify a couple steps was all it took for me. You can do it just fine, and if you have any problems, there are a ton of people here to help.

ironman2011, you are probably right. I remember when I had a 2003 Goldwing and I had to replace the air filter, that was a job. I got everything put back with no problems. So I probably with dust off the service manual and go get the handlebars. Thanks for the encouragment.

Been looking at doing this on my Ultra. Dealer time depends on internal or external wiring and whether clutch and brake lines have to be replaced. There are several video and slide shows referenced on here of the swap. I'm going to try and do mine myself as dealer wanted 7 hours labor and replacing all lines which I know from this forum is not needed for KW 2+2's. I think they just threw out a worst case number because they were busy at the time I asked.

Been thinking its about time to start the winter project as its in the 30's here now and city just salted all the roads for this last sleet storm.
