Hello,
Newbee to HD forums.
I just purchased my first Touring bike. Its a 2012 used FLHTP police.
Came from Manchester N.H. PD. I sold my Dyna wide glide 6 years ago, so its been a while. I have a new seat for 2, passengar floor boards and grips all from Harley Davidson. I need to install pipes and a radio. Already picked out the pipes but not sure about the radio part. I would like it to be IPOD compatible. My wife I are headed to South Dakota in July. Gonna ship the bike out there and ride back to Massachussetts.
Harley has the hog tunes speakers and controls that just mount to your handlebars... not real familiar with that sorta stuff myself, more often than not i prefer the sound of the bike over anything else so i don't have tunes on my RK, and on long trips where i do want to listen to my ipod, i have some klipsch in ear ear phones that are great for riding, so i just use those. But if you just google something like road king radio or something, i'm sure you'll find a lot to look at. I have heard the hog tunes stuff from the dealer isn't bad.
As far as the tunes go, since you got a two up seat and will ride with the better half, are you planning on wearing a helmet? If so, do you want an intercom system? If so, there are some pretty nice blue tooth systems that will allow you to talk, connect tunes and some with built in tuners. Just something to consider before spending a bunch of money on tunes, then louder exhaust, then louder tunes, then - well you get the point...
Congrats and welcome from beautiful Montana. You really ought to consider riding both ways to South Dakota. It's a great ride, and the real experience behind the whole thing is the quality ride. If you can't, so be it. At least one way will be a great event. Enjoy, and how about some pix?
Thanks for the welcome. As I indicated before. 7 years ago I sold the FXDWG2 and I have been driving a 65 Chevy for the past 6 summers. I cant wait to get back on 2 wheel daily. I am not too sure how to attach pics. Hope this worked
Beautiful bike - congratulations and welcome from a frozen Illinois. Is there any kind of space on the batwing to mount a OEM or aftermarket radio right there in the batwing dash?
Ride safe!
