Default wheel removal

I want to be able to remove my own wheels/tires. I read the service manual and would like some input on what really need to be removed to get the job done. Mufflers are a given. I have a lift to raise the bike.

Where I seem to struggle a bit when installing the rear wheel is getting the caliper / rotor lined up. Anyone have any tips on that?
