Hi, I just received my new HD Five Spoke wheels. Not sure if I should tackle installing the wheels myself or if I should just take it to my indy. Never put tires on before, I am sure they need to be spin balanced etc. They came with hardware kits but i looks like some special tools are needed.
I'd say see how much your indy would do it and have him take care of it unless you have the tools/machines to do it so you don't scratch your new wheels. My indy charges $5 to remove the tires and $15 to reinstall with new tube and rubber lining. That's if you bring the wheels into him of course.
i'd have the shop remove your tires and reinstall with ballancing... maybe even install the bearings. but you can remove and install the wheel back on your bike pretty easy. but then again, a shop might not charge that much to removed and install back on the bike... see if you can get a quote both ways.
I took my new and old wheels to my Indy and he pressed the bearings in for me and switched the tires over. I removed the old wheels and installed the new wheels from there. He charged $100 for all that it would of been another $75 to $100 if I had did nothing.

bberk, last time I dropped a rear wheel was to replace the chain on a 02 Shadow I used to have. Never had to do it on a belt drive HD. Anything tricky about it? Is alignment easy?
Thanks

Its not bad but there is a bit to it. I think my Indy charges $45 to remove and install the rear wheel and after my first time I thought it would of been worth paying him. Now that Ive done it a few times its not that bad.

Price sounds similiar, my indy just quoted me $75 per wheel fully installed. Not too bad since I do not have a bike jack yet. Not sure I want tackle all of this. Would rather just have someone do it so I can use my free time for riding! Thanks all
