Default Wheels Installation Quote

After a long back-order waiting period I finally received my Agitator wheels. I also purchased new tires and wheel installation kits.

My dealer quoted me 3 hours of labor. At $110 per hour that is not chump change.

Does 3 hours seem about right to press in new bearings mount the tires on the wheels, remove old wheels and install new wheels?

Thanks!

My dealer said its 2-3 hours including pressing in the bearings....but when I put my Agitators on 2 weeks ago, my dealer had a deal.....if you buy the tires there, they don't charge for the install. I had to pay for the bearing to be pressed though....like $80.

Seems a bit high, but dealers aren't cheap, I'd go to an indy, you'll probably pay about half.

Lynchburg, va vs northern cali? you think theres a difference there? locations dictate labor costs you can't compare one to the other unless you're in the same neck of the woods

I don't have any vetted and recommended independent shops in my area. The dealer where I am taking it (McGuire H-D in Walnut Creek) does very good work, I am just curious if it really takes 3 hours for the work to be performed.

3 hours is about what I had quoted to me for the same work.

Given that you have already purchased the tires, I would go with an indy to get the work done. If at all possible you might even install the tires yourself after the bearings and wheels have been mounted. That's what I did and it saved me a good chunk of $$...

The "labor time" seems about right....and I think that was your question.

Surely folks you ride with are handy with a wrench. Trust me, I'm Nooooo mechanic, just a hobbiest and I put the bearings in my wife's Black Ice muscle wheels and my FLHTP Agitator front wheel (both bikes have ABS), had a local guy mounted the tires for $20. I added 3oz of dyna beads myself in all the tires, put the rotors on. So, that cost me $20. If you have a 35mm socket, you can use it to tap the bearings in. DON'T YOU DARE LET SOMEONE CHARGE YOU $300 for 45 minutes of actual work.
