If it is accurate that this malfunction "locks out" the front brakes, NHTSA should be informed. A few of these malfunctions should generate a recall. If Harley refuses to at least help out financially in the fix, that should also be passed along to NHTSA.

Given the amount that many spend on going faster, it seems a small amount to ensure stopping safely....
I know, advice is worth what is paid....
and a number of excellent comments regarding the possible irresponsibility of the MoCo to fix this (and other possible similar incidents) notwithstanding -- dependable braking is more critical than moving forward....

I'm getting a new abs module. Supposedly the HCU can get clogged very easy.

Default 09 roadglide rear brakes hard

My rear brakes went hard on my 09 roadglide then they dropped to floor . The bike locked up and skidded . The fluid has been serviced twice I know of in past 4 years. My local dealer said hydraulic control unit is bad. Figured they have it go ahead and do it. Called Harley to tell them their abs is malfunctioning. Yep they don't care. It would be nice for them to fix this junk system. Sorry had to vent

I have thought about removing mine and if I have any more problems wit it I will. My thoughts were I know that the same year bike I have there is a non abs model I'm sure for the must part the only difference is some of the lines and just figure out what ones you need and order them from the non abs model. I'm sure it can't be all the lines

Make sure and notify the NHTSA.

I would remove the fuse first if the brakes work normally with the key off. I have ABS on my 2009, if i had issues with the system i would do that and keep my eyes out for a used controller.

The best fix is the right fix.

On my second ABS module for my '09, 48343-09, which was $393 in 2019 from an online vendor that doesn't sell online anymore, was rolling the bike out one morning for work and the front brake lever was hard as a rock. Mind you, I did replace the fluid at least annually due to changing bars and trying to find the right brake hose length and routing... Just about every morning I could activate the ABS by hitting some small bumps around a railroad track but, my pump still froze. Second module is being bled annually with the tool to actuate the ABS pump, if it goes out again then will do the ABS delete. Harley is about the only ABS pump I have encountered where when it fails you are unable to use the brakes...

I'd at least call some higher level hd official and see if something could be worked out.
a real screw job.
I called Harley corporate # to complain, they told me the complaint has to come from the dealer. I guess the dealer is spanking me for doing that because I have not heard anything from them for 2 weeks.
