Default Brighter headlight!?

Ok, sorry in advance, I have seen a few posts on this subject. I'm not overly disappointed with my head lamp on my 06 electra glide classic but the high beam is a total failure. I always run in regular beam with the spot on but I would like the option to get things brighter as the high beam is worthless. I have seen a few posts on this HID thing but that seams like a lot of work. I can do the mod I think but then I read how I need a special reflector? WTH? Lol
I am really not wanting to drop $250 on LED lamp either. Do I just need to change out the bulb? Or does anyone have a link to the kit I will need with the reflector?
Thanks again!

You can get an adapter so you can run the spots on high beam. When I am running the long roads in the desert I want to be able to see as far as possible. Jim

I swapped the OE lamp with Philips X-treme Power halogen bulb (9003/H4) and happy with the gain I got both hi/lo beam.

I have posted with my 2012 regarding the LED Headlight, but let me talk about my 2002 Roadking Classic. I'm running the newer style 06' headlight in it. I tested a lot of different Halogen bulbs (Silver Star, Sylvania, PIAA, Philllips to name a few) and found the PIAA worked the best for me. I have taken that bike from Calif to Sturgis and this last trip found the PIAA's worked the best for me.
I found that the PIAA Star White Bulb 60/55W = 110/100W White for the headlight and the 55W = 80W for my spots were the bomb on my last trip. Granted it's not the same intensity as a HID or LED, but it works. You could go with the Truck-Lite LED setup but all 3 lights will run you under $400. Be careful running high wattage bulbs because the wiring might not handle the amperage and from the heat you could melt the housing.

I went with the PIAA Extreme White Plus H4 bulb. It made a TREMENDOUS difference. The low beam is about as bright, if not better, than the factory high beam was. The high beam is fantastic. I'm very pleased with the result and it only cost $50 or so.

I went with the Halogen Xenon 100W-90 bulbs on EBay for all of about $10 4 years and 70,000 miles ago. ( I ride to work from out here in the country at 5:00 a.m. and it's DARK.) These are the bulbs that look bluish when the bike's coming at you.

I notice the greater voltage drain on the voltmeter but have had no heat related issues (and the Road Glide runs 2 of them.) Very bright white light good for a solid 600 feet in front of me. I've seen deer as much as 1/4 mile out.

I have the Phase 7 Truck lite now, but previously used the PIAA extreme white, awesome bulb.I always run with high beam on and found the high beam burned out rather quickly for a $50 bulb. On another note , the brightness was outstanding for a halogen bulb.

You could do any of the above, or you could just angle your light up a little more with the adjusting screw. When the dealers put the spot lights on they angle the headlight down so you don't blind on coming traffic. You need to put it back where it was, maybe even a little higher. Try that before you spend $50.

have run the 90/100 watt bulbs on several bikes and have liked them but they don't seem to last very long anymore , maybe being made cheaper , anyway I have a HID kit coming from e-bay at this time ,$26 , have read that the speacial refector is better but not really needed , will see , going to put a switch on mine so it won't spike on start up and if I am riding with a group and bothering people I can turn them off , I have 35watt super white bulbs in the spots and have them on with the high beams , you can allso look at the Custom Dynamics ringz for your turn sig , I am doing this stuff to be seen better and don't do alot of night driving but want to be able to see the critters if I am out late

One of the ways to improve high beam is simply to change reflector, to get a better pattern shape, then add a high performance bulb. I used a H-D HID headlamp for a few years, which has a remarkably wide low beam and is great as a daytime light, but despite using several different types of high beam bulbs it was impossible to see beyond the pattern of the low beam light. It had to go and I have replaced it with a Valeo H4 reflector and Ring Xenon bulb, although haven't tried it out in the dark yet.
