Has anyone installed H-D grips of the larger diameter over the stock ones? Trying to imagine what it would feel like. Going to replace the stock ones on the new RKC, their the same ones that came on my Sporty, infact I think they come on everything.
..have the HD Nostalgia grips (aka Jackhammer) and love them..have had them on last two bikes, definitely not fancy but I like the look with black controls. I changed out my levers to the black also, looks good and cheaper than going chrome. A good bit fatter, feels better than having grip so small.
I have the chrome and rubber large heated handgrips and LOVE them. I don't have gorilla paws, wear large gloves, but they really feel good.We have the flame heated grips on the wife's Deluxe, they are the small/standard size. Every time I ride her scooter, it feels "funny".. just small.
Dave....I like the larger grips myself. Seems like your hands don't get as tired with the larger diameter ones. I use these heated ones on mine I have an average hand size. They make these grips in small diameter also though.
Sportster grips, at least from around 94 up, are 1.3" in diameter. The stock grips on the other models are 1.5"...only 2/10s of an inch, but there is a difference.
I might be in the minority, but I like the size of the stock grips.
If you have not already, ya might want to see if your dealer will pop a few grips out of their packages so you can see what they feel like. Some dealers even have grips set up on display bars for that purpose.
I have been told by many (including my dealer) that the heated grips don't last much longer than a year. I would love to have heated grips but I'm not willing to deal with only a year life (just outside of warranty). Is this a typical problems?
I recently went from a Dyna with stock size grips to a Electra Glide Classic with large diameter grips. I am 5"10' 210 lbs average size guy and I personally hate the large size grips. This summer they will be gone.
