Default Cigarette Lighter plug

I was just reading the Manual for my '13 FLXH, and it specifically has a warning not to use the cigarette lighter as an accessory plug.

I want to use this plug for a GPS and Phone power plug.

ignore the warning ??

I wondered that myself. Then I'm surfing the HD website and I see accessories that use the stinking lighter plug? WTH?

I guess I need to read the manual. I was looking to use it as an iPhone charger. Pandora and phone GPS eats the battery pretty quick.

You can do it. HD puts the warning there for liability reasons. Just have to be careful not to let the plug hit the tank when you turn bars fully to the left.

What he said. Get a low profile plug that doesn't stick too far and you'll be fine. I use mine for the iPhone for satnav and tunes.

HD is saying that so you will use their product. It's games they play. You will be fine as long as you install it right. Proper ground And fuse it. Cover the wire with wire loom for added safety.

I use mine all the time for external electronic devices, phones, GPS, etc. Never had any issues.

Read that too and put it in the "ignore as ridiculous" file.
