I usually wave, mostly in response to being waved at. Sometimes its just the "Guy Nod" if I'm busy with both hands on the grips. Funny observation, when you get within a hundred miles or so of a big event like Sturgis or Daytona all waving stops. If you get a wave its because somebody went into autopilot and waved out of habit. When leaving the event, you pass some invisible demarcation line and all waving returns as normal.

Put me down in the 'waver' column...usually a down-low, sometimes a side-out, but always a wave if I see ya...

Unless you're on a scooter. Hate to admit it, but I was riding my wife's Vespa one time and had a dude on a Harley give me the wave. I waved back and laughed about it for hours...

My wife won't say that but she'll wave at them too.

Wave when you can. I try to wave all the time, but like you I sometimes get caught up in the ride and don't see a rider untill we're passing. So I try to catch the next one. It's all good.

A wave to Harleys, a nod to the others, and a giggle for the scooters...

I used to be waiver, but for last time 5 years especially riding in a group, I despise it. Especially if you are leading a group, and you’re primary communications is hand signals. Waving at approaching riders just causes the riders behind to be more confused.

I still do it when I ride by myself, but I find myself doing it less & less, especially since they’re so many riders where I live at.
