Default DE-catted Head Pipe

Temp of exhaust 2011 Ultra classic at Cat after 20 minute ride: 445 degrees

De-catted head pipe purchased from Ebay seller, rickb9ol $100.00, no exchange.

2 exhaust gaskets $16.00

2 hours in the garage.

Temp of exhaust at Cat location after the same 20 minute ride: 275 degrees.

Definitely worth it.

Just did the same thing today to my 13 se ultra...road it for about 25 miles after install to make sure I had no hesitation or decel popping, I don't have a tuner on, and everything seemed fine...especially the heat. I don't know what the temp was before, but it was HOT, now it's tolerable, really not bad. I would recommend this to everyone...jmo.

There is a guy here in this forum that will most likely come into this thread and challenge your findings.

He is a non believer. I did the same on my bike and I am happy with the outcome.

Did the same and very happy. Even like the sound of the stock pipes now and have no intention of replacing them!

Just put mine back together today after cutting it out and welding it back up myself. Had to rush off to work so I didn't get to ride it but it sounded ALOT better. I had cut through the baffles in my stock mufflers also. Is it really nessaccary to replace the exhaust gaskets on the heads?

I think he has a purple road king in his sig. I knew it would work because my 06 Softail V&H pipes run about 275 at the rear foot peg. I wasn't looking for sound or performance, just less heat. I got a little deeper sound with the RCX pipes and a feels a little snappier but that's probably just the sound making me think it's faster.

A lot of people say it isn't but I'll pay $16.00 to make sure I only have to do the job once.

I really don't know how you can argue about the heat. Heat and the materials used make the chemical reaction work. Until the cat heats up it does nothing. Park you hot car on some leafs in the fall or a field at a fair and watch what happens. I remember Ford Escorts starting on fire between the seats back in the 80's. The cat was to close to the parking brake cable and conducted the heat to the sound matting and carpet.
