Paint help please!
So I got a chip in my gas tank near the seat, after doing some research on how to fix the chip I decide I am going to try and fix it myself bad move!
I clean the area and then scuff it first with 1500 grit sandpaper and apply the HD touch up paint (Merlot Sunglo) to the chip if fills in rather nicely and I was pleasantly surprised for what it was, chip was better but not perfect. Now the problem I cant get rid of the fine scratches around the chip in the clear coat from the 1500 grit paper? I used some compound and then some Mothers California Gold cleaner wax and they won't go away. I am by far a novice and should have let it to pro's but I didn't think it would be that difficult, anyway does anyone have any ideas on how to get the fine scratches out?
I did all this by hand no buffing with a drill or buffer, I also tried the HD scratch remover but it didnt do much of anything.
Thanks for the help

Can you take a picture and post it ? My PC (Porter Cable) and some Menzerna SIP should be able to get most of it if it's not too deep. Are you sure you didn't break through the clear ? If you did then you're out of luck..
I'm in Harpers Ferry, not too far. I'd be glad to help if you want. PM me if you're interested.

I have had great luck with Meguiars ultimate compound and ultimate polish then some s100 wax from harley all by hand. You have to rub pretty hard till you don't see any product left then wipe off with micro fiber towel. Best of luck. Also do not use a drill polisher use a da polisher if anything.
