Default avon contour grips

I wanted to replace my stock hd grips with avon countour grips. The throttle grip is snug on the bars. It does not spin freely like the hd grip did. Because the grip does not spin freely the throttle sticks. The only thing I can think of is to sand the bar a little. Any other ideas.?

I just ran into the same problem with mine. I have them on after market bars and took the powder coating down to the metal, still sticks. Tried lube, and then put them on my budies stock bars, same thing. Another friend of mine is a HD mech and says that is acommon problem with the Avons. So i have a set sitting on my shelf that are useless.

Same problem here. I called Avon two weeks ago and they said they know of a bad batch of grips that went out. The ID is the wrong size, I was told to send the Avons back to the company for a replacement pair. I decided to just return the grips to where I purchased them for a full refund and bought some gips locally. I did not want to wait a week for replacements (they would not replace mine until after they recieved the bad pair) that could have the same issue.

I once installed a throttle grip that wouldn't spin as free as it should & the throttle stuck. I had installed them incorrectly. I pushed them onto the bar too far & the end of the grip was catching on the end of the bar. Hard to explain but if it's not the grip being made wrong, try sliding the grip out a little from bottoming out on the end of the bar.

I just ran into the exact same problem!!!

Call Avon 800.334.7477 and ask to speak to Lee. He sent me a new throttle grip and it had a slightly different diameter and works flawlessly now. He said they had a bad batch and was aware of the problem. You should not need to sand or use lubrication. The stock grip was on dry and there is no glue that needs to come off.
They also sent a self addressed return label so I could send the old one back on their dime.
The grips are awesome once you get it taken care of.

Did you try backing off the throttle assist? I replaced mine once and and the tthrottle assist was causing the throttle to stick on the new grips.

ok i just installed these grips. what ever you do DO NOT use sand paper. get some scotch bright and use that in there then spray some wd-40 on the bar and a little in the grip. this will not effect throttle by wire in anyway just get a nice thin coat on there. for the clutch side just put the grip lock on and it will be fine but you will notice the left side is losser then the right side. but no sand paper it will only cause more work
