I know this topic has been discussed before but, has anyone come up with a definate answer on why the HD Horn is a POS? Why does it work 10% of the time? I had mine replaced by the dealer, as many others have, tried spraying silicone insideand all the other suggestions I found on the HD thread but, it still works 10% of the time. Like you, I only use the horn when I'm about to be killed by some jerk and would like to depend on the horn 100% of the time not 10%. In 40 years of riding I have never had such a problem as stupid as this. Any input would help. I have an 06 RG but, know other models have the same problem.
Thanks for any reply.
Is is your stock horn?? I had mine taken off as soon as they got the New HD premium air horn in stock. Any of the the aftermarket horns are better and louder than stock.
Jeff
I have a stock horn and the only time itcroaks like a frog is when the bike is at idle. I have made the assumption that it is a low voltage issue. When I am riding it works anytime I hit the button.
I will probably convert it to an airhorn like Bounty Hunter's just for more volume.
I,ve had the same problem since new.It will work at the dealers but.when you need it, it will croak like a frog. Untill I find a horn I like I just forget about it and use my fist!! and then point with 1 finger. works really good.
The stock horn sounds like a junkyard-bound '76 Buick with pneumonia. I recently replaced mine with the Rivco air horn system designed for Harleys. A bit pricey but they look great, are very loudand tend to add an inch or two to the back portionof an inattentive driver's pants when you hit the button. Check them out at: www.rivcoproducts.com/
