Default windshield change

Can you change windshields without completely removing the three screws? I have a windsplitter (cant remember what it looks like under the fairing) and I am wondering if it has slots and i can just loosen the three screws and pull it out. i want to switch out my windshield and test another and I have stripped those stupid inserts a few times before.

yes, you can. In fact, if you have the little spacers, like the ones that come with Harleys windshield pouch, you almost have to do it that way. If you pull the screws all the way out the spacers will fall inside the fairing and you'll have to pull the whole thing apart to get them.

I've noticed that the stock screen on my Street Glide will not slide out. I have to remove the 3 screws completely which is kind of a bitch because I have to also loosen 2 fairing screws to get them back in place.

The stock screen is tapered towards the bottom of the 3 holes. I've been meaning to file them down so I can just slide it out in the future.

Is that how you get them back in straight? loosen the other fariring screws? It seems everytime I take these out they do not want to go straight back in.

Yes. I was having a hard time with them too until the local indy shop gave me the tip.

I just loosen the two screws on the inner fairing and the 3 windshield screws go in no problem now.

Good tips! The guy (forgot his name, great guy) at LRS cautioned me from pulling those screws all the way out. I did, one is now cross-threaded and a PITA. I have a T-Bag windshield pouch to install and frankly I'm hesitating for having to deal with those damn screws again. Maybe I'll take the tips (cross-threaded screw and all) and give it a shot. Thanks . . . I'm a touch nervous the screws won't be long enough with a slightly thicker windshield and the pouch attachment. Guess I'll find out soon . . .

I just loosen the three screws and slide the shield out. When I did remove them, I never had a problem aligning them.
