Default Windshield Screw Just Spins

What's the fix for a one of the top 3 windshield / fairing screws that just spins. The little doohicky (sorry for my lack of vocabulary) that sits in the inner fairing just spins inside it's hole when I try to unscrew. So, i gave the fairing a little a little pull/pry and it came out, still attached to the screw.

Just put some kind of adhesive in there to lock it back into place (after taking it off the screw)?

Thanks guys.
Steve

Marine (two part) epoxy will work. Doesn't expand........and it's water proof. Any hardware store will have it.

I used two part epoxy in the past. Also tried guerrilla glue but that didn't hold

Get pn#16585-96. Take your outer fairing off. Pull the insert out. Take a 3/8-16 tap and thread it into the plastic where the other one pulled out. Take the new insert and put the slotted end into the plastic first. Take your existing 1/4-20 windshield screw and thread it into the new insert and turn it while it threads the new insert in. Unscrew the windshield screw and the insert will be in there good and tight. Reassemble fairing and windshield

This is the best fix. I've done 2 of mine this way I carry a extra insert in my tool bag for a spare.

Thanks guys...went and bought this P/N today and just asked the service guy if there are any special instruction on installing. His intstructions were to use a flathead screwdriver to screw the new insert in, obviously the screwdriver would go into the slotted end (which you say to put in first)...screw it in until the fairing is flush with the bottom of the slots. Next, break off the sides next to the slots and you're good to go. Through some Loctite on there if you want.

Which way is right? Or is this service guy way off base?

PS - tried to buy that set on eBay that was linked, but the guy apparently doesn't want to sell them too bad. Has 'best offer' option of which I tried twice for prices I see that he sold them for previously and he didn't even counter to even. Just denied. Oh well, figured I'd share in case he's on here.

use the slotted end to cut the threads. it looks like you should just screw it in but that's not the case. service guy needs to shut up. also I went to Lowes and bought three brass inserts and they work fine.
