What do you do when the brass insert starts spinning, other than learn not to tighten screws so tight?

ok...so nothing to do with breaking the tips off with needle nose pliers?

They'll break off for sure if you try to screw it in with a screwdriver.

No sir... You do not break anything off.. You will lose almost half your inside threads that way.

geeese this sounds complicated ,ive done this twice to 2 different ones,just put a dab of jb weld(two tubes were u mix some) on the side of the thing-a-mo-bob and tapped them in gently with a hammer. Better then new

What Dawg said. It's very easy and this link might help. Just hand tighten the fairing screws after the new inserts are in and you'll never have to mess with them again.

get the kit from moco. cheap. easy to install and works great. this happens to most touring bikes if u mess with your windshield

I use the same things (larger sizes in woodworking) and the slotted end is for cutting thru the material (ie self tapping) and the diameter (tapper) of the thread on the slotted end is getting smaller.....Dugan is correct............ never thought of these cause I only have threaded wood
