Problem starting a 2006 ultra Classic
A friend of mine has a 2006 Ultra classic. When he tries to start it he gets a clicking sound. This does not happen all the time. Maybe every 6 or 7 times he tries to start the bike. He took it to the local dealer and they replaced the batter, said the problem was solved, but when he got it home it did the same thing. They also said they fixed some wires. Just wondering if anyone out there came across the same problem.

solenoid chatter indicates a bad battery or cable OR burned contacts/disk in the solenoid...usually caused by repeatedly allowing the chatter before finally replacing battery.(... a duff battery can damage the solenoid)
the solenoid is the canister on the front of the starter, you'll feel it thru the housing if it is the solenoid chattering, just rest you hand on it
rebuilding/servicing is as easy as working on a chevy or nissan starter.
if the clicking is under the side cover, that is the starter relay...it's function can be checked with a test light at the green wire attached to the solenoid.
so step one:
test for voltage at green wire when starter button is pushed- if yes, each and every time, the problem is in the battery, battery cables, solenoid or starter.
if no voltage then the problem is in ignition switch, starter switch , kill switch, associated wiring ( change bars anyone?) or the starter relay
something to mull over
