Having almost the same problem: Once in awhile when riding, voltage drops to ~10V, BATT and CHECK ENG lights comes on. I rev the throttle up and it slowly got back up to ~ 14V.

This evening, same thing happened as I was pulling in the garage. Reving eng up no help. As always, plugged in battery tender, usually LED on tender turns green after ~ an hour or less. Been 4 hours now, still red. Will look at it again in the morning.

Maybe my battery finally died, as the tender is direct wired into the battery. I don't think voltage regulator is in the equation while parked.

Any insights? TIA

BTW, I apologize for hi-jacking the thread.

Of course when I brought it to the dealer a month ago it was working fine. They cleaned grounds and sent me home. The regulator doesn't fall within the dates for the replacement program. Last weekend the light came on and stayed on all day, eventually draining the battery and leaving me on the side of the road, looking for a jump. Got it to a friends house and charged the battery. I trailered the bike to the dealer, and wouldn't you know it, the lights are not on, it's putting out 14+ volts, and the dealer can't find anything wrong. They even put a heat gun to the regulator bringing it up to 200 degrees. They checked the stator, putting out 60 volts AC, and no smell. Connector plugs and wires look good. Battery is nearly new.

So now what? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe
You have a bad regulator...I have replaced several that weren't included in the recall campaign...Tell them to check it for trouble codes...I'll bet it has a po512 code stored in the historic codes.

They find a few codes, including low voltage to ECM or FI. What is po512?

The problem hasn't come back, but it is supposed to be in the upper 80's this week, so hoping to get it to the other dealer while the light is on.

Thanks, Joe

It wouldn't be the first bad new battery I've ever seen. Not saying that it is the battery, but that you should keep that in mind. Beyond that, regulator and wiring.

Hey Joe, There was a recall for the voltage regulator 2012 Touring. If you haven't had the recall work done you may have one of those bad regulators....

The po512 is the low voltage code....That should have been enough reason to replace the regulator after checking all of the grounds and connections...At our dealership with those codes set we will replace the regulator rather than having our customers stranded on the side of the road.

My bike VIN isn't one with a regulator recall, so no joy there...

I'm not happy with the dealer service manager - they know there's a problem, but didn't offer a solution (except to make it my problem). Hope the next dealer is better.

Lights came on again last night. This morning I rode to the new dealer, and of course no lights... They are going to give it a go anyway. Only one code, P0552, I think.

Good news - they replaced the regulator. Says the date code was 2 weeks beyond the recall, but a bad one may have slipped by anyway. He called Harley tech support and got their OK even though it wasn't acting up at the time. They are going to give it a good test ride and then I'll pick it up.

For those in the area, Mikes Famous in Groton did the repair.

May have been a straggler in the Value Stream that took a couple weeks to get date coded....Good Luck!
