Default Dull Chrome

My cans at the top of the forks are dull -- not rusted or really pitted -- just dull. I have tried all the cleaners and polishes I can think of.

Anyone have any suggestions -- tarn-x, acetone, gas???

Thanks as always!

If they are stock stainless a buffing wheel and a hard compound will do the trick. Something like this http://www.eastwood.com/buffing-comp...rs-3-pack.html. IMHO It would be easier to replace them with chrome ones.

If they are chrome I have been using 0000 steel wool and turtle brand chrome polish on my tarnished chrome and it makes it look brand new

steel wool is an abrasive.

and the fine fibers which come off turn into rust when they get wet.

steel wool oxidizes about as fast as it will burn

steel wool and pressure washers are 2 things that belong nowhere near a motorcycle

OP, determine which material you have, stainless or chromed steel.
Magnets will not stick to stainless ( unless a very, very poor grade of stainless)
