Default 6 x 9 vs 5.25 fairing speakers

I've been giving some thought to ordering an after market removable fairing for my RK. I'm pretty much settled on a Reckless and will pick the stereo components and install them myself. One thing i'm not sure is if I want 2- 6 x 9's or 4 5.25 speakers. Any thoughts on which may be the better choice from those of you who have been down this road? Is one really any better than the other?

Thanks
JG

5 1/4"s don't have a large enough diameter to produce a decent bass response, no matter how many you have. 6x9's do.

2 different rules of thought.

The advantage of the four speaker is that you use all four speaker outputs from the stereo. With a stock exhaust this may be enough sound out put for some.

The two speaker 6x9 systems routinely put out more sound but the standard radio really doesn't have enough power output to drive them to there potential.

So, the best sound is will be the 6x9 (Depending On Quality) but an amp may be required to get the best sound.

My King is using a 6x9 speaker aftermarket fairing with back mounted speakers. A Biketronics amp 75watts RMS 300 peak. Sony DSX-100 Stereo.

One thing you have to watch is speaker back clearance. A back mounted speaker requires more depth than a surface mounted speaker. The back mounted speaker has a cleaner looking installation IMO.

This is an older picture of my faring, it has a Sony marine stereo with has been replaced with the Sony DSX-100 I-Pod Stereo.
