Also suggested to use steel wool in the exhaust pipes.

My shed was custom built and tight (like a house without insulation, and spotless, lol). No mice, etc in there. I also have a good cover. I like the idea of stuffing rags in the exhaust just in case. I'll put a drop cloth under the bike and wrap the cover tight.

Some people think starting the bike every several weeks is a good idea too....it's actually a bad idea.

I brief start up won't warm the engine oil up long enough to burn off the condensation inside the motor that will be caused by a cold start.

They also say to change the oil prior to winter storage as well.

I store my bike in a storage shed, in WI, which gets colder than NJ. No problems. I am not going to change my oil this year, because I changed it 800 miles ago, but this was my drill, last year.
1. Add Stabil or Seafoam. Take bike for 10 minute ride to warm up oil, and get treated gas in carb, fuel injectors.
2. Change oil, filter.
3. Clean, wax bike.
4. Cover with breathable cover. I use HD cover or sheet. Don't use a tarp.
5. Battery Tender. I don't leave it hooked up. Just connect every couple of weeks. I have friends who fried their batteries if left on full time.
6. I left a bag of dessicant which I bought at Ace Hardware.

7. Steel wool in pipes, to keep out mice. I put mice/rat poison out too.

Go in house and pout.

If you are worried about mice. Take some Dixie cups and fill about 1/3 full with moth crystals then take some cloves that you buy in the spice bottles and drop a few cloves in each cup on top of the moth crystals. Place a few around the bike and you won't have any critters I guarantee. This is how we kept critters out of our campers and sheds in the winter works like a charm...

Mine stayed in an enclosed trailer in my back yard when I lived in Northern Michigan...

-20 F was not unheard of, and over 200 inches of snowfall.

Extension cord to the battery tenders, and everything else was good.

You'll be just fine.

We can get some cold winters here as we are over 1 mile in elevation, however in my climate controlled garage, mine will sleep quite comfortably between rides, along with the wife's Camaro convertible.
