There are a couple of reasons to not have bluetooth as the only communications on a bike. First, it is a paired kind of service. That means only 2 people can talk to each other. There are some implmentations that allow paring to a 3rd and I have heard 4th device. But I have not seen these in use. Second, it has a very limited range. Thsi is perfect with jsut 2 people wanting to ride side by side. For my wife and I it is great.

I think what many people are really asking for is FRS (Family Radio Service). That is what some head sets are using, not blue tooth. The is the best of both worlds. You have cheap medium range communications at low enough power so batteries can last all day long without a recharge.

CB can have as many people sharing the same channel as you want. The range is at least 1 mile and usually can do about 5 miles. When talking to a base station, you can get 20 miles under ideal conditions. The downside is the power required to transmit that far is not battery friendly. It can be done, but it becomes big and bulky. This is why the radio is built in.

I like CB for those reasons when on group rides. When just my wife and I, bluetooth head sets are better.

What HD should do is get rid of the wires on the bike though! Bluetooth is great for talking from the bike CB to a headset. Not offering that option is poor planning on the part of the motor company.
