Default Ultra CB/Stereo Headset Use?

Hi guys, picked up my new ember red sunglo RGU today. Never had a CB/ Headset before. I ride almost 100% solo so I don't see using the headset much. I can see how it would be great with fellow riders but when else do you use it? Is it good for listening to music? Thanks all.

When I am wearing my full face helmet, I do enjoy listening to music through my headset while riding. I especially liked being able to plug in my iPod so I did not have to worry about searching for stations with something worth listening to. So, yes, it is good for listening to music.

As far as the CB is concerned, I went on a ride with 4 friends last fall, one of which had a CB on his bike. We decided right away that we would not talk incessantly to each other during the ride. When riding, I didn't want to have to listen to someone else talking all the time and neither did he. But it was great for us to be able to communicate about road hazards, upcoming turns or interesting sights along the way. This was the second long road trip we had taken as a group and the first where we were able to communicate through the CB and I really thought it worked out well.

I also use a headset and boom mic with my 3/4 helmet. Works great. I use J&M headsets. The HD is good for transmit audio on the cb, but the ear pieces are cheap and tinny and will distort. I also have the BOMM cell phone interface under the faring, and I have discovered that the HD mic is useless with that because of it's inherent wind pickup.

The J&M headsets are quality throughout and work well with their noise cancelling microphones. The audio reproduction through the J&M earpieces leaves the Harley ear speakers in the dust..and I mean in the dust. So overall I am happy with both of my J&M headsets (one in the full face and one in the 3/4) for all around use of listening to music, the intercom, talking on the phone when necessary, and talking on the cb.

I ride 2-up with the wife a lot and the headsets work great for listening to music and talking to each other while riding. I seem to be in the minority here but I enjoy conversing with her while riding. I also use the headset to listen to music when solo. I haven't used the CB yet since no one I ride with has one on their bike. I have had no distortion or quality issues with the stock headsets, when I want to blast the music I do it with the external bike speakers. The only issue I have encountered is the VOX is too sensitive so I turn it off and manually key the mike to talk.

I find using my 3/4 helmet a whole lot because it blocks wind noise and the music sounds better...I do use the CB a lot with fellow riders and the intercom with the wife...I will tell you that the J&M set sound the best....Make sure if you buy one to get the High Output MIC.

You do know the VOX is adjustable, I enjoy the comm. function as well when on the long rides. I need to upgrade to the J&M headsets as the stock HD speakers are not the best. What's the best place to find the upgrade headsets?

Yes, but even on the least sensitive setting it comes on from wind/engine noise.

I turn mine down and just give a little sound like "Check" or PSST or...a sound to activate the vox then talk...it's a fine line between the vox and the ambient noise...
