Default Tire sizes

I have a rudimentary question about tire sizes. I have a stock 05 EGC with the nine spoke wheels and the stock Dunlops, and I'm replacing the tires for the first time at 13K+ miles. While I'm leaning toward a particular brand, my question is about sizing. There are several sizes, but I'm confused about the nomenclature of sizing. If I was wanting to swap to Metzler 880's or 888's what would be the correct size? MT 90 vs. MU 85? 72H vs 77? What gives? Can someone explain the sizing?
