Well. I'm still waiting to hear back from the MO DMV with confirmation on which (if any) of my submissions was approved.
Apparently, my first submission (FLSHEM = Flash Em) did not meet their 'standards'. They require any submission to be 'family friendly', meaning you cannot have anything that is obscene, or can be considered offensive or suggestive. Those rules pretty much ruled-out anything that I find funny and/or amusing & clever.
So, here are a few things that I may (or may not) have submitted to 'get around' their filters:
In Missouri, you can have up to six letters, one of which may be a 'special character: ' (apostrophe), - (dash) or (space). Definitions are included where I think may be necessary.
3OO3S (*****)
-ING (dashing)
PLA D8 (play date)
R8ED X (rated x)
X R8ED (x rated)
NC 17
HSTLER (hustler)
OBSEEN (obscene)
OFNSIV (offensive)
PRIM8 (primate) - idea for a friend w/ape hangers
CHROM'D (chromed)
TRILL (slang for 'true' & 'real')
PROPER
TOPLSS (topless)
FLSHME (flash me)
9INCHS (totally untrue...just thought it was funny)
NOONER
QUICKY (quickie)
FLEX
FLOSSN (slang for showing off)
LEGIT
NOPDLS (no pedals)
BALNCE (balance)
U WISH
UR NVS (you're envious) - I think I've seen this here on the forum.
SHINEY
VROOOM
GNGSTA (gangster)
MYSLED

There were a ton more that I had in my head...should have wrote them down.
Just wanted something that would make me smile if I saw it while driving. Also, obviously, I lean more towards the risqué (which reminds me that RISKAY was a consideration).
Just sat on hold with the DMV to check the status of my plate...I was told OBSEEN (obscene) was approved and will be shipped in a few weeks. Interestingly, the 'rules' say you can't have anything obscene.
